THANKSGIVING

Life Skills 101, Every Day Life No Comments »

Giving Thanks for the “good” things in your Life is very important. The “good” may be very small, in the scheme of things, however, it is still GOOD.

I am amazed at how many people think of what is missing or what they don’t have. I have to admit, in my younger years, I too misunderstood how to acknowledge both situations existing at the same time. There are always situations that need to be improved. Maybe it’s your financial situation. Working toward improving your financial situation is positive, however, if you are “thinking or refering to your condition” as Poverty, that is negative energy. Every thought I focus on is “putting” energy out in my environment. I chose to focus on ABUNDANCE not a lack of abundance.

Improving my financial condition means I WANT to INCREASE abundance –the law of attraction.

I used to have a Cousin who was always worried about getting a Stroke. She’d tell her Husband about her fear at bedtime. That stopped a lot of “intimacy”, however, she was also reinforcing a negative self dialogue. Instead of striving toward Health, she was reinforcing Sickness–a state of dis-ease.

Give Thanks for what you have in your Life. You probably have much more than you think you have. Family, friends, co workers, neighbors. Count your ”haves”, not your “have-nots”.

The Week that Was

Life Skills 101, Every Day Life No Comments »

I had the best of intentions last week. I was going to write a post every day and then the reality of my every day living showed me that many times my goals aren’t realistic.

I’m a GenPlus 50 person who works 3 mornings a week at a company where I expend considerable mental energy. I arise at 5AM; am out the door by 6AM, drive 45 min. I’m fortunate that at that time of the morning the traffic moves at a fast pace.

I leave at 1PM, however, I’m not finished for the day. I have errands;pick up e-mail which takes another couple of hours.

The other part of my life is as a Business Owner; marketing is one of the “hats” I have to wear. Marketing on line; marketing off line has been consumming a lot of my time and energies.

Then on Tuesday as I waited at a traffic light I saw smoke coming from under the car’s hood. When I parked to pick up my mail, the smoke was gone. I decided to go to my mechanic and apparantly the battery was ready to blow up. Acid from the battery was spewing all over. I was fortunate that I got the new battery before the old one blew up, but I didn’t need this in my busy schedule

By 6:30 PM I usually quit working at the computer, I listen to the nightly news: then I make dinner.

When I was younger I could work late into the night, now the realities of my energy and my goals are at odds. Willing myself to work longer just isn’t working. Sometimes I admonish myself that I haven’t accomplished enough and other times I acknowledge that I’ve been on the go since 5AM.

This morning, before I start my other goals on the list I decided to write –My lesson–sometimes “Life” comes along and adjusts the schedule, however, the goal can still be accomplished.

Do you have too much on your plate?

Silverado Fire

Last Sunday night at 6PM my heart stopped as I heard the news;there was a fire at Silverado Canyon in Orange County.

I live in the San Fernando Valley, however, my disabled brother lived in that rural canyon. The roads are extremely narrow. The houses are modest in this canyon, especially in the section my brother lived in.

A few years prior torrential rains caused a huge boulder to crash through the General Store’s window killing the store owner’s daughter. I’ve been concerned about this area for my brother, especially since he had had a heart attack in July. He was reluctent to move as he had a large dog, but he did realize in Sept. that he needed to leave the canyon. We spoke in Sept. and he was waiting for a vacancy in an Assisted Living facility. He didn’t tell me the name, nor am I sure of the city in Orange County. I called him the beginning of Oct. and his telephone number was disconnected. I wrote him a note and I haven’t heard from him,nor has the letter been returned.

Then the fire, started by an arsonist who in my opinion is an evil human being. I don’t excuse this kind of behavior with psychological interpretation.Sociopaths don’t have a conscience and this arsonist chose of terrain was calculated to create an inferno.

Thursday, I felt a great relief to find out that my brother had moved before the fire, even though I still don’t know where he is.

One of the residents of the Silverado Canyon was interviewed on TV. He said, they are not people with expensive houses, they are just plain people.

These people had to fend for themselves because there were few fire fighting assets for Orange County. They did a heroic job.

I will have more to say about these fires.

De Stress Your Mind

Life Skills 101, Business Skills 101 No Comments »

You cannot made a good decision, not on a personal level, nor on a business level while your mind is “chattering”. Creative answers come about when your mind is quiet. I used to teach this simple mind quieting technique.Practice this every day.

Set a timer to 20 min. at the beginning. When you become experienced you’ll be able to get to your quiet place much quicker.

Sit down in a straight chair

Close your eyes

Take several deep breathes

With your eyes closed, follow your breath as you breathe the air in and out through your nose.

As you breath in–think I AM

As you breath out–think RELAXED

Keep this up breath in–I Am

Breath out–Relaxed

If thoughts come into your mind–see the thoughts drift away–like a fluffy cloud

Don’t hang on to any thought–after a while you will think you’ve been asleep, however, you aren’t–you are in your quiet center.

If there is a particular situation you want an answer to,as to what you should do, etc you can mentally take that into your mind before you start the process. You will find many ideas you never thought of before. It’s a good idea to write down your thoughts, images afterwards. You’ll learn a lot.
